The Index is a proprietary model built by Rip Station, which publishes The Pack Report. Method, full history and the trend chart.

This reading is September 24 against September 17, and it is not a reading.

  • Vintage basket: 0.0% (116 cards; 0 up, 116 flat, 0 down)
  • Modern basket: 0.0% (112 cards; 2 up, 104 flat, 6 down)

What happened

The Index is built from Rip Station's pricing engine, which re-marks each card-and-grade lane whenever a new public comp lands. The engine's published history for every basket card stops on September 15 and has not added a point since. Monday's reading, with 105 of 116 vintage cards unchanged, was the first symptom; we described it then as a quiet weekend. It was not. Nothing has been re-marked for nine days, and a week-over-week comparison of two identical numbers is zero by construction.

What we are doing

Holding the Index rather than printing a number we know is wrong. The tables below are included for continuity and show 0.0 percent throughout; they carry no information. When the engine resumes, the first reading back will be compared against the last good reading (September 14) rather than against the paused weeks, so the gap is covered rather than hidden, and we will say in that issue what the engine missed.

What the market did in the meantime

Plenty. Since September 14: a First Edition Charizard at $1,000,953 on eBay, the Torchic Gold Star at $2.7 million, two Illustrators at $5 million and $2.8 million, a sealed First Edition box at $750,000, a Legendary Collection reverse Charizard at $575,000, a Masaki Gengar at $207,000 and the first week of 30th Celebration. Vintage was up about 4.2 percent in the ten readings before the pause, and every headline since has pointed the same way. When the feed resumes we expect the vintage basket to re-mark upward in a step, concentrated in Legendary Collection, Team Rocket Returns and Base Set.

The Index ran in The Pack Report, September 24, 2026: PSA at Nine Million, a $59.99 Tier, and a $1,000 Machine. Published by Rip Station.
