Pocket: Deluxe Pack: Mega

Pokemon TCG Pocket's Deluxe Pack: Mega went live on September 30 and runs until October 29. It is a 429-card set, mostly reprints of key cards from the past year's Mega-era expansions (Mega Rising through Ruler of the Skies), in four-card packs with an ex guaranteed in every pack, plus a number of new alternate-art versions and parallel foils. It replaces Team Rocket's Ambition, whose month-long campaign ended September 29. We watched the paper Team Rocket set for a Pocket effect from the day that set launched; it read flat for four weeks, +0.8 percent once, and -0.5 percent over the engine's sixteen-day catch-up window, the only vintage set to fall. If a Pocket spotlight moves paper prices, it did not do so here.

30th Celebration's second wave

The 30th Celebration mini tins and the six-pack booster bundle release Friday, October 2. Pokemon Center took preorders for both in July; the tins sold out during the preorder window and bundles remained available. The set's announced chase cards settled within days of the September 16 launch on the strength of the most generous pull rates of the modern era, and a second wave of packs does not change that direction. The three RGB Mews remain the exception.

Delta Reign preorders

Pokemon Center opened its first Delta Reign preorders on September 30 for booster displays, elite trainer boxes and booster bundles, and the wave sold out as fast as it opened. Delta Reign releases November 6 with prereleases from October 24 to November 1. A sellout at Pokemon Center a month before release is the normal state of a Mega Evolution launch and says little about pull rates, which are the thing that will decide the set's singles prices.

PSA on Tuesday

PSA's next fortnightly backlog update is October 6. The September 22 figure was 9 million, down 900,000 in two weeks. The new Standard tier opened September 14 and every card submitted to it joins the same active backlog, so Tuesday's number is the first that fully reflects Standard-tier inflow. At the recent pace, 8.1 million would mean the clearance rate held; anything above 8.3 million would mean the new tier is slowing the path to the 5 million threshold at which the Value tiers reopen.
