Collector Crypt's first billion
Collector Crypt, the Solana-based platform that vaults graded trading cards, mints a token for each one and sells them through fixed-price packs, said this week that cumulative sales since launch have passed $1 billion. For context on scale: the platform's monthly pack sales have been running in the low hundreds of millions through the summer, and Pokemon is the majority of the inventory it vaults. The milestone matters less as a number than as evidence that a pack-based, tokenized model for graded cards has found a very large audience very fast, and that the audience is spending at a rate the traditional hobby would recognize as a top-ten marketplace.
Thirty Pikachus
On August 12 The Pokemon Company previewed the Pikachu cards from Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration, the anniversary set due September 16. Every booster will contain one of thirty different Pikachu cards, each by a different illustrator in a different style; the two shown so far are by sowsow (Pikachu among decorative pillows) and Shimaris Yukichi (Pikachu eating Berries). A guaranteed subset hit in every pack is unusual for an English set. It means the thirty Pikachus will be plentiful individually but will function as a set-within-the-set that collectors try to complete, which historically is where the premium goes.
The Illustrator ladder
The Illustrator Pikachu's 2026 results, in grade order: a PSA 10 at $16.5 million (Logan Paul's copy, February), a BGS 9 at $2 million (private sale, July 25), and this week's BGS 8.5 at $1,006,500 (Goldin, August 15). The ladder is now continuous from 8.5 up, and every rung above an 8 is a seven-figure card. The next data point the market wants is a PSA 7 or 8, which has not traded publicly this year.
A One Piece trophy in the top five
The 2024 One Piece Chinese Year One World Championship first-place Luffy, an 8-by-8-inch display trophy awarded to a single event winner, sold for $713,700 at Goldin on August 9. It was the only non-Pokemon card in the week's top five and the second One Piece trophy this summer to get there. Trophy cards, one copy per event winner across games, are becoming a category with its own buyers, and the prices track the prestige of the event more than the game.
