The Index is a proprietary model built by Rip Station, which publishes The Pack Report. Method, full history and the trend chart.

This reading is October 21 against October 14, a full week after the last issue's reading of October 15 against October 8.

  • Vintage basket: +0.8% (median of 118 cards; 69 up, 41 flat, 8 down)
  • Modern basket: 0.0% (median of 117 cards; 46 up, 31 flat, 40 down)

How the index is built

Each basket takes twelve active sets and, within each, the ten most-traded cards. Vintage means 1999 to 2007 plus the promo series; modern means 2016 onward. Every card is priced by Rip Station's engine from public comps, separately for every grader-and-grade lane. A card's weekly change is the average across its lanes; a set's reading is the median of its cards; the basket headline is the median of all cards. The daily level, every past reading and the trend notes live on the Index page.

Reading the week

Vintage kept climbing at a slower pace than last week's +2.4 percent, and breadth stayed strong: eight cards down out of 118 is the second reading running with fewer than ten. The EX era is still doing the work. EX Team Rocket Returns (+4.5 percent) took the top spot from EX Unseen Forces (+3.8), with Holon Phantoms (+2.9) and Expedition (+2.7) behind. The biggest single lane move was a PSA 10 Team Rocket Dark Hypno (9/82) from $589 to about $2,000, a single comp we want to see repeated before it counts.

Legendary Collection read 0.0, the same week a complete PSA 10 run of its 19 holos sold for $960,000. That is not a contradiction. The Index follows the set's ten most-traded cards across every grade, and one trophy lot of the rarest versions says little about the ordinary copies most collectors buy. Base Set added 0.8 percent and the XY-P promos were flat.

On the modern side, the basket read exactly flat with 46 cards up and 40 down. Evolutions led at +2.5 percent and Generations added 1.4. Both versions of 151 slipped: the English set fell 1.9 percent and the Japanese Pokemon Card 151 fell 1.1. Ascended Heroes dipped 0.3 percent after last week's first flat reading, so the stabilization we flagged is holding rather than turning. Delta Reign arrives November 6 and will test modern demand again.
